A Cape Girardeau woman came home intoxicated early Friday and attacked her boyfriend with a butter knife without provocation, police said.

Cape Girardeau police arrested Lashonta L. Johnson, 26, and the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged her with second-degree domestic assault.

Her bond was set at $7,500 cash, and Johnson must wear a monitoring device that tracks her consumption of intoxicants.

Cape Girardeau police officers went to a domestic-disturbance call at 1:35 a.m. Friday in the 1100 block of North Middle Street, according to a probable-cause statement filed in the case by officer David Weidenbenner.

The victim had a small laceration on his right cheek and a scratch on his chest, Weidenbenner wrote.

The victim said Johnson came home 20 minutes earlier, and he was sitting on the couch listening to music, according to the statement.

Johnson came out of the kitchen wielding a butter knife, cut his face with the serrated edge and scratched his chest with the flat edge, Weidenbenner wrote.

The victim quickly got up and left the residence, according to the statement. Johnson began throwing his belongings out of the house, Weidenbenner wrote.

Johnson initially did not allow officers to enter the residence, but she opened the door when Weidenbenner said they needed to ensure everyone in the residence was OK, according to the statement.

Johnson was so intoxicated, she had trouble standing, Weidenbenner wrote.

“I attempted several times to determine what had occurred according to Johnson, but she was unable to make coherent sentences,” Weidenbenner wrote.
