An Illinois woman and four young children sustained minor injuries in a crash Friday morning in Cape Girardeau, police reported.

Shortly before 10 a.m. Friday, Zachary T. Baker, 19, of Jackson was driving a pickup truck south on Perryville Road when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the centerline and struck the driver's side of a northbound minivan driven by Ashley N. Sturm, 32, of McClure, Illinois, Cape Girardeau police reported Friday.

Baker was not hurt in the crash, but Sturm and her four passengers, who were younger than 10, were taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, said Cpl. Darin Hickey of the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

Both vehicles had heavy damage, Hickey said.

Baker was issued a summons for failure to maintain a single lane. Hickey said the cause of the crash is under investigation.

"It was raining a little hard this morning," he said Friday.
