JACKSON -- A Wisconsin man was arrested a few hours after money was taken from a Cape Girardeau grocery store, Jackson police said.
Michael L. Carter, 20, of Milwaukee was arrested after police spotted his car on Jackson Boulevard with license plates suspected of being stolen, patrolman Scott Eakers said.
Eakers had the driver pull into the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant at 7:51 p.m.
Cape Girardeau police had reported that shortly before 6 p.m., a man had reached into the cash register at Aldi's grocery store at Kingshighway and Independence and had taken an undetermined amount of cash.
After he was stopped, Carter was identified as a suspect by a tattoo on his neck, that had been reported by Cape Girardeau police, Eakers said.
Carter was charged with a class C felony of stealing and receiving stolen property. He is being held in Cape Girardeau County Jail under $25,000 bond.
