A winter weather advisory originally in effect through noon for Cape Girardeau and Perry counties has been canceled.
Light snow was still falling shortly before 8 a.m. in Cape Girardeau but had stopped by around 10:30 a.m.. Since snow began falling early Sunday, less than an inch accumulated.
Though there was little accumulation, the snow led to several accidents, including a 10-car accident on Interstate 55 in Cape Girardeau around 7 p.m. Sunday. Some snow remained on local roads this morning.
On its online road conditions map at http://maps.modot.mo.gov/travelerinformation/ the Missouri Department of Transportation reported I-55 was partly covered from north of Perryville to south of Portageville, Mo., just before 8:30 a.m. Highway 34 west of Jackon was covered and Highway 72 was partly covered. By 11 a.m., MoDOT was reporting those roads had been cleared.
Several area schools reported canceled Monday classes to KZIM KSIM radio, including: Immanuel Lutheran in Perryville; Kelly schools in Benton; Kelso C-7; Metro Business College; Oak Ridge school district and early childhood center; Scott City schools; St. Ambrose in Chaffee; and St. Vincent in Perryville.
The Jackson FFA breakfast was also canceled.
