The National Weather Service in Paducah, Kentucky, has issued a winter storm warning in Southeast Missouri from 6 p.m. until Monday evening because of an oncoming snowstorm.

"There will be some little patches of snow in the first part of Sunday, and The Cape Girardeau area should expect between four to six inches of snow through Sunday night," Dan Spaeth of the National Weather Service said Saturday afternoon.

This morning, the National Weather Service said it expects eight to 12 inches of snow in Southeast Missouri from the storm. During a winter storm warning, four or more inches of snow are expected.

Gusty winds will make it feel as if temperatures below zero this morning.

Spaeth said while it's not uncommon to have snow in February, it is unusual to have a "pure snow," which means no frozen rain or sleet.

He said because of low temperatures expected, it should be a dry snow.
