Prize winners from the recent Building Blocks for Better Health & Safety event at the West Park Mall have been announced. The event, sponsored by West Park Mall merchants, Southeast Missouri Hospital, and St. Francis Medical Center, drew more than 3,000 children to 30 different displays and activities.

Winners included:

Andy Tansil, 7, of Cape Girardeau, who won a bicycle awarded by VFW Post 3838 and its auxiliary. Runners-up in the drawing were Nathan Wallace of Sikeston and Lindsay Jaco of Cape Girardeau. They won American flag gifts sets.

Connie Young, 16, of Pulaski, Ill., won a World Book Encyclopedia of Science prize.

Andrew Clark, 10, of Gordonville, won a $50 savings bond from Mercantile Bank.

Jason Hercik, 13, of Jackson, won a $50 Famous Barr gift certificate.

David Zaus, 12, of Poplar Bluff, won a Nike sports bag from Foot Locker.

Others winners included: Tara Kirchdoerfer, Jackson, Payless Shoe certificate; Lucas Fox, Grassy, Robins Shoe certificate; Emily Hutteger, Cape Girardeau, Plaza Gift school supplies; and Katie Sedlacek, St. Louis, Names N' Things back-pack.

Venture gift certificates were won by Clayton Hall of Scott City, Violet Bock of Advance, Wendy Edwards of Jackson, and Raelenna Cook of Oran.

St. Francis and Southeast Hospital provided gift totes in which the following prizes were awarded:

Cookies 'N Creme gift and teddy bear to Brittany Kimbel of Cape Girardeau and Lauren Smith of Poplar Bluff; Champs mini basketball and Cookies 'N Creme gift to Craig Olson of Oran and Matthew Roberts of Cape Girardeau; JCPenney and Burger Chef gift certificates to Melissa McGee of Cape Girardeau, Beth Jordon of Marble Hill, Andrew Toeniskoetter of Scott City, Andrew Moore of Cape Girardeau, Nickie Johnson of Jackson, Paul York of Cape Girardeau, Tiffany Garmon of Cape Girardeau, Annette Kelley of Ste. Genevieve, Christy Gramlisch of Chaffee, and Dominique Fleischman of Cape Girardeau.

An additional 12 children, chosen from puppet show audiences, received medal and gifts from Chick-Fil-A. More than 40 children received Building Blocks door prizes.
