ST. LOUIS -- Plans for a wingsuit flight over downtown St. Louis were called off Friday over security concerns, a spokeswoman for the flier said.

Alexander Polli, a 28-year-old wingsuit flier with a huge following on YouTube, had planned to jump from a plane 4,000 feet above downtown about an hour before Friday night's Cardinals game against the Atlanta Braves. Plans called for him to do stunts during a three-minute flight in the wingsuit -- an aerodynamic jumpsuit that allows the wearer to soar for long distances before opening a parachute.

But spokeswoman Meghan Spork said "new security concerns" were raised in conversations with local government and the Federal Aviation Administration, forcing cancellation of the event. Messages seeking details of those concerns were not returned.

Spork said Polli may try again in St. Louis in the future.

Polli had not disclosed where specifically his flight would take him, but he had promised to avoid the Gateway Arch. The National Park Service, which operates the iconic monument, strictly prohibits access to the Arch from planes and by parachutists or those who want to climb it or jump from it, under threat of arrest, jail time and fines.

Yet some eyebrows were raised when a Thursday news release about Polli's flight said the best viewing area was near the Arch grounds.

The jump was to be a promotion for SceneTap, a mobile app for nightlife that is making its St. Louis debut.
