About 1,000 Cape Girardeau residents woke up to no power along Mount Auburn Road and Independence Street early Tuesday after two primary wires went out at a Mount Auburn substation.
Inspections concluded that wind and a failed splice were to blame, said Jean Mason, manager of AmerenUE's SEMO division.
Within an hour after initial calls, power was restored to about 600 residents when Ameren switched connections. About 400 residents closest to the lines waited until repairs were completed by 11 a.m.
