Linda Wilson had no idea how active the Jackson Chamber of Commerce was until she started work as the chamber's executive secretary Monday. Now she hopes to help get the word out about the chamber to rank and file Jackson citizens."From my perception as a private citizen, I had no idea the chamber was as busy as it is," she said. "I had no ideas the calls come in like they do. It's not just out of town people, either. A lot of it is local people, needing information."Wilson, who has lived in the community the past 30 years, believes the chamber can do even more for local residents."I would like to see the chamber be out there more for the citizens," she said, "answering more questions and helping out. I'm looking forward to it."Wilson, the daughter of Melvin and Delores Riney, Sr., worked at Lenco for 16 years before opening M.J.L. Sales Corporation with her father in 1990."After almost 10 years we have decided to close the business so that my father can enjoy some hunting and fishing time," she said.
Wilson attends Immaculate Conception Church and belongs to the County Seat Investment Club, which teaches women how to research stocks and mutual funds and how to invest wisely. Her hobbies include spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, fishing and walking.
She has two children, Kimberly McCarroll of Maryland and Jim Schamburg of Jackson."I am looking forward to assisting all our chamber members and directors, as well as pointing tourists toward our many local attractions," Wilson said.
She replaces Amy Evans, who held the position for one year, before leaving for an American Cancer Society position.
