Motorists driving on William Street Monday can expect some changes while construction contractors begin work on a project that will add stoplights and left turn lanes on the busy thoroughfare.

Work slated to begin Monday night will include temporary lane striping and barriers along the south side of the roadway.

Motorists won't see a huge impact because the contractor has been asked to do a majority of the work between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. during the week and after midnight on Friday and Saturday nights.

The project includes adding dual left turn lanes from William Street onto Mount Auburn Road, a right turn lane from the Interstate 55 northbound off-ramp to Mount Auburn Road and traffic signals at Farrar Drive and William Street. The lights at Siemers Drive and Silver Springs Road will be coordinated with the new signals.

The work should be complete this fall.

The project is expected to cost $1,081,275, and a contract was awarded to Gaines Construction Inc. of Wentzville, Mo.
