I like to read a variety of things -- a good old-fashioned love story, articles in Guidepost, magazines and brochures on interesting places.
To me, reading is the greatest form of entertainment there is, whether it's sitting outside on a nice day, curled up on the sofa on a cold winter day, or in bed before I go to sleep.
I don't have a favorite book, but I have favorite subjects. I love any book that is about Arizona or Native Americans.
Since I was a child, I have been fascinated with Indians, their cultures and traditions. And because I found out about three years ago that I have Indian heritage from both parents, I have become even more interested.
My favorite magazine is Arizona Highways. There are wonderful articles and beautiful scenery in this publication. I have subscribed to it for several years and can hardly wait each month to get the new issue. I also have a collection of back issues, the oldest is from 1925, the year the magazine was founded.
My mother read to me when I was a little girl, and I read to my daughter when she was young. My sister is five years younger than me, and I read to her a lot when she was little also. I have my childhood books and also those of my daughter.
I also have books and comics from my younger years and yep, you guessed it, they are mostly about cowboys and Indians.
A friend of mine is an elementary teacher (first grade at that time) and one year she gave me order forms for books that were offered to her class. When the orders arrived I read each of the books immediately and really enjoyed them.
Of course, all these books, old and new, are for any future grandchildren I might have.
I like to read. No, I love to read. You can learn so much and be entertained at the same time.
I can't imagine not being able to read.
