West Park Mall is offering a safe environment for Halloween night by having retailers at the mall hand out candy to trick-or-treaters from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, a release from West Park Mall stated. Barnes and Noble will also be holding a "pirate story time" at the mall from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in their children's section of their new store.
Black Forest Ghost Town closed until Monday
Black Forest Villages Haunted Ghost Town, four miles outside Cape Girardeau on Route W, will not be open this weekend due to rain but will reopen Monday from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.
Two Cape Girardeau police officers were promoted this week to the rank of corporal. Patrol officers Jeff Bonham and Jason Selzer will become corporals effective today, a release from the police department stated. Bonham has been with the department since 1998 and is currently the police Drug Awareness Resistance and Education officer. Selzer has served in the department since 1996, and has been assigned as a crime prevention officer since 2003. Bonham graduated from the Missouri Police Corps in 1998, and Selzer graduated first in his class from SEMO Law Enforcement Academy in 1995. Both men graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with degrees in criminal justice.
Due to recent rain, work on Route A in Scott County has been postponed until Monday. MoDOT crews will replace a drainage pipe beneath the roadway between U.S. 61 and County Road 236 near New Hamburg. The work will take place from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Route A will be closed during the work. For more information, call MoDOT at (888) ASK-MODOT.
