ST. LOUIS -- Six more preliminary cases of the West Nile virus were reported in Missouri Thursday, bringing to more than 100 the total number of cases in the state.

All told, 104 people have been preliminarily diagnosed with West Nile. Three Missourians have died, all of them St. Louisans.

The latest cases included a 53-year-old man from Callaway County; a 68-year-old man from Nodaway County; an 83-year-old woman from Dunklin County; two men, ages 50 and 40, from St. Louis city; and a 46-year-old St. Louis County man.

Nationwide, more than 1,700 people have contracted the mosquito-borne disease, and 84 have died.
