A Jackson alderman appointed to the position in September has won his first election to the same post.
Voters on Tuesday elected incumbent Tim Welker to the Ward 1 Board of Aldermen seat. Welker defeated challenger Dustin M. Cauble 148 to 77.
A heavy-equipment operator and truck driver for Oscar Welker and Sons, Welker was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Curt Poore in September.
Welker cited being a lifelong resident of Jackson as one factor for winning the race.
"I'm just happy and thankful for the ward members, mayor and those who voted for me," Welker said. "I'm not going to try and change a lot of things during my term in office."
Cauble was unavailable for comment.
The three other races for aldermen seats were uncontested. Dave Reiminger won another term in Ward 2, Larry Cunningham was re-elected in Ward 3 and Joe Bob Baker won another term in Ward 4.
