SEMissourian.com, the official web site of the Southeast Missourian, is kicking off a five-week Beanie Baby giveaway Monday.
The online staff will give away 10 of the hard-to-find collectibles over the next five weeks.
Individuals can register at www.semissourian.com once each day. Multiple daily entries will be disqualified.
"We just wanted to jump aboard the Beanie Baby bandwagon and have some fun," said Joni Adams, web project director at the Missourian.
The 10 Beanie Babies include six different animals:
-- Bongo the Monkey
-- Pinchers the Lobster
-- Waddle the Penguin
-- Ringo the Raccoon
-- Lucky the Ladybug
-- Quackers the Duck
"It was hard enough to find 10 in one place," said Adams. "We couldn't be picky about the animals. That's one nice thing about Beanie Babies, you can trade duplicates."
Names of two individuals will be chosen each Wednesday at random and posted on the web site each Thursday, beginning on Thanksgiving. The final two winners will be announced Christmas Day.
No purchase is necessary, and the web site will distribute the prizes at random. Winners may not select a particular Beanie Baby as their prize.
The prizes can be mailed within the United States, but local winners can pick up their prizes.
Those registering online should include their name, address, phone number and e-mail address. Winners will be notified by e-mail or telephone.
Those who don't have Internet at home, can access the site at one of several community sites: the Cape Girardeau Public Library, Riverside Regional Library and the Generations Center at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
