The National Weather Service is warning of a potential winter storm that could hit the area early Thursday.
A special weather statement from the weather service said light precipitation ahead of a strong storm system could cause travel problems early Thursday, especially in Southeast Missouri. Light freezing rain, sleet and snow are possible before they change over to rain in the afternoon Thursday, according to the statement. The statement cautions that there's still some uncertainty as to where the precipitation could fall.
A winter storm watch is in effect to the west and south of the Southeast Missourian coverage area.
