A replacement project for a water main on West Main Street in Jackson is scheduled to begin Monday.

The main is between the 800 and 1000 blocks of West Main Street. Portions of the street will be limited to local traffic between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. while construction is underway. A detour along West Jackson Boulevard leading to Farmington Road will be available for all other through-traffic.

Erica Bogenpohl, staff engineer for the city of Jackson, said the current 2-inch, cast-iron water main is old and undersized, and has been on the city's list of construction projects for several years.

CE Contracting Inc. of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, has been hired to complete the project, with completion slated for April 24. The contractor is going door to door to deliver notices to all residents who may be affected by the construction.

Bogenpohl said the city expects the project to be completed by March, but because it is winter, days were added to allow for bad weather or other potential complications.

Bogenpohl also said she doesn't expect the replacement to have a significant effect on the availability or quality of residents' water.

"[The construction workers] are going to install this line in pieces at a time and then charge it, and then the customers will be tapped into it once it's charged and ready to go," Bogenpohl said.

Anyone with questions may call the Jackson Public Works Department at 243-2300.
