A water leak near the intersection of Ellis Street and William Street should be repaired Tuesday afternoon, said Kevin Priester, water system manager for Cape Girardeau's water utility operator, Alliance Water Resources.
The leak was reported Friday morning, Priester said. Crews responding determined that the leak was not an emergency and that there was no danger to customers, he said.
The water utility company has called for utility locators to mark the location of other underground services, which should be done by Tuesday morning, Priester said. As soon as the utilities are located, repair crews will dig up the line and stop the leak, he said.
"It is probably just a tap or something leaking by the main," Priester said. "But we won't know for sure until we get it dug up."
Fixing a non-emergency leak can generally take at least three working days, Priester said.
