Wastewater treatment at Fenton plant may resume in March

ST. LOUIS — The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District said partial treatment at the wastewater treatment plant in Fenton could resume as early as March.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported sewer district operations director Jonathon Sprague told district board members Tuesday morning full treatment at the plant could resume in April.

The district has been forced to pump untreated sewage into the Meramec River since Dec. 28 when record flooding destroyed controls and other equipment at the plant. Signs have been placed along the river from Fenton to the Mississippi River warning people to avoid contact with the water.

District spokesman Lance LeComb warned an April resumption of full treatment could well be pushed back, saying that “a lot has to go right for that to happen.”
