KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Warrensburg, Mo., man was sentenced Tuesday to nearly six years in prison for possessing two pipe bombs that were seized from his home along with anti-government literature and information about weapons of mass destruction.
U.S. District Judge Fernando J. Gaitan Jr. sentenced Lawrence Wayne Logan, 24, to five years and 11 months in federal prison without parole.
Logan pleaded guilty in April to possessing illegal explosives, said U.S. Attorney Todd P. Graves.
According to a criminal complaint, Johnson County deputies found the pipe bombs in a briefcase and a camera bag while searching Logan's home Oct. 7 as part of a homicide investigation. The pipe bombs were disabled by a U.S. Air Force bomb disposal team.
The deputies said they also recovered handwritten notes that contained bomb-making information and diagrams. Other material included writings about the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, noting that it was a "good start."
An affidavit said authorities also seized documents that described the production of weapons of mass destruction, including anthrax.
