A Cape Girardeau man is accused of forcing his former girlfriend into a car at gunpoint, then telling the driver to take them to the Mississippi River because he was going to kill her.

Police have charged Ivory C. Alexander, 32, with first-degree domestic assault, first-degree robbery, kidnapping, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Alexander's bond was set at $100,000 cash or surety. Alexander remained at large as of Wednesday afternoon. An arrest warrant was filed Tuesday.

Alexander showed up at the apartment in the 1700 block of Cape Meadows Circle, where the victim was staying during early Monday, according to a probable-cause report filed by Cape Girardeau police officer Brendon Whitlock. Alexander gained entry to the apartment, holding a black handgun, and he pushed the victim to the floor repeatedly. At one point, the victim dropped her phone, and Alexander put it in his pocket. The victim told police he pointed the gun at her during the assault.

Alexander ordered the victim outside. After she fell to the ground, he dragged her to a vehicle by her clothes, Whitlock wrote.

He told her to get in the car or he was going to kill her. He then forced her into the back seat. Before he got into the passenger-side front seat, he fired one shot into the air, according to the statement.

Alexander told the female driver to take them to the river.

The driver drove toward the river, and Alexander hit the victim several times with his fists as she curled up to protect herself, Whitlock wrote. The driver refused to stop at the river and drove somewhat aimlessly, according to the statement.

Alexander asked to go to his "baby momma's" house. Once they arrived, Alexander ordered the victim at gunpoint to step outside of the car, and he began punching her again.

"I don't know why you're (messing) with this (woman); she ain't worth it," the driver said, according to Whitlock's report.

Per Alexander's instructions, the driver took the victim back to the apartment. During the trip back, Alexander called on a cellphone, and the driver relayed a message.

"She had better leave town or he would kill her," Whitlock wrote.

Police went to the apartment about 1 a.m., and the victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. Whitlock wrote she suffered cuts and abrasions, as well as a nose fracture.
