Shappert Engineering Inc., the contractor building channel improvements to Walker Branch next to Kingshighway, will close the bridge to Arby's Restaurant Monday.
Arby's patrons will have access to the restaurant by way of a drive from Themis Street along Southwestner Bell's offices, and from Bessie Street along Sunny Hill Garden Center.
The existing bridge, which has a span of about 25 feet, will be demolished and rpelaced with a new bridge with a 50-foot span that is designed to improve the flow of stormwater down the channel.
The new bridge is scheduled to be opened by the end of February.
Replacement of the bridge is part of the $40 million Cape LaCroix-Walker Branch Flood Control Project being done through a local cooperative agreement with the Corpos of Engineers and the city.
The city's share of the project is funded through a quarter-cent sales tax voters approved in 1988.
The project includes channel improvements to Cape LaCroix Creek and Walker Branch and a 157-acre dry detention basin north of the city.
Completion of the entire project is scheduled for 1997.
