A wagon train that left the Golconda, Ill., area a week ago will end its journey in the Thebes area Sunday afternoon.
The train, which is following the Trail of Tears route, will be in the Trail of Tears Sport Resort south of Jonesboro today. The wagon train will arrive in the Thebes area Saturday and remain there, providing Indian presentations through the afternoon and evening.
The wagon tour is co-sponsored by the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service and the Southern Illinois Ranch and Campground Owners Association.
The wagon master for the 75-mile trip is Ray Morris of Golconda. Morris, who works in Vienna as an educator with the extension service, started organizing the journey more than a year ago and hopes to make it an annual event.
Part of the program involves distributing 15,000 brochures on Indian history in Southern Illinois.
