Incumbent Cape Girardeau City Councilmember John Voss won a narrow re-election victory and southside voters selected Meg Davis-Proffer to represent them on the council for the next four years.
The results in both contests were in doubt until the last precinct reported the results. Voss was a single vote behind in the Ward 1 contest before a 36-vote victory among voters casting ballots at Centenary United Methodist Church gave him the win.
Voss took 53.5 percent of the vote, collecting 267 ballots to Robinson's 232.
Davis-Proffer won a 32-vote victory over Stafford L. Moore in Ward 2, winning four of the six voting precincts. Like Voss, a 25-vote victory among voters at Centenary church, which is a precinct split between the two wards, secured the win for Davis-Proffer.
Voss could not be reached Tuesday night for comment.
Robinson said she has no regrets about the race and would not have changed her strategy. "I ran a good, clean race, and at least people had a choice and now they know who their councilman is," Robinson said.
Voss, an engineer at Procter & Gamble, campaigned on his experience on the council.
Neither Davis-Proffer nor Moore could be reached for comment.
Davis-Proffer will replace eight-year incumbent Charlie Herbst, who was barred from seeking a third term.
Businesswoman Kathy Swan, owner of JCS Wireless, will take the Ward 6 seat being vacated by Marcia Ritter. Swan was unopposed in Tuesday's election.
