KANSAS CITY -- Charity Sandvos, the daughter of Carl and Jane Sandvos of Scott City, won first place at the Junior Festival State Competition in Kansas City on May 4.

Sandvos represented Encore Music Club, a division of the Missouri Federation of Music Clubs. She won a superior rating for her vocal solos at the district competition in Cape Girardeau in February, when she was selected to represent the district in state competition.

Sandvos' win at the state level earned her a $100 scholarship, a blue ribbon and a certificate of participation. She is a private voice student of Marlene Creech of Scott City and is a junior at Faith Christian Academy in Cape Girardeau.
