The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is seeking volunteers to help others with their tax returns. The program is sponsored by the East Missouri Action Agency in Cape Girardeau County.
Volunteers provide free assistance to taxpayers who cannot afford professional tax help. Volunteers assist those with special needs, including persons with disabilities, non-English speaking people and older taxpayers. Volunteers need not have a tax background to help with the program. Training will be provided.
Bill Bunch with East Missouri Action Agency hopes volunteers will come forward. Last year, there were no volunters so a smaller program was offered by EMAA staff.
Persons interested in participating in VITA program should contact Kevin Sexton at (573) 334-5533.
