If it weren't for help from Toybox, a young mother wouldn't be able to give her child any gifts for his first Christmas.

One-year-old Cymone likes to play with toys -- but he has few.

His mother says he's interested in toys that light up or move. He wants a Singing Elmo doll, toy trucks that light up or roll, coloring books and Leapfrog Learning Pads. Balls, blocks and books also are good toys for this infant.

Toys donated through Toybox are delivered to needy families in Cape Girardeau. The Cape Girardeau Jaycees sort the toys by age groups and fill every child's request. Deliveries will be made Dec. 16.

Christmas for the Elderly

Miss K lives by herself. She has no children and no family contact. A pet cat is her companion. Miss K survives on Medicaid assistance. She can't afford much more than her monthly essentials since suffering a stroke several years ago.

She would like gifts of clothing and household goods for Christmas. Jeans in size 24W and extra-large shirts and blouses would be good gifts. She also needs a sock cap and gloves to wear when it's cold outside; she'd like it in blue or black. A pair of brown or black lace-up boots also are on her wish list.

She wants some dish towels and wash cloths, as well as sheets for a twin-size bed.

Donations can be dropped off at the Southeast Missourian offices. Monetary donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 4, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63702-0004.
