Seventeen individuals and organizations were honored for their civic work Wednesday at the Vision 2000 annual Awards of Distinction breakfast.

Each year, the Community Relations Council of Vision 2000 salutes organizations and individuals who have shown support and service for Vision 2000's strategic plan.

Honorees this year are: Lois Boston, Nancy Bray, Carol Carter, Susan Clubb, Linda Cochran, Tony Coleman, Central Hardware, Mary Hiler, Burger Lane, Cindy McCormack, Rodney Miller, Johns Metal-Iron Salvage Company, Maurice "Moe" Sandfort, J.W. Strack, Southeast Missouri Builders Supply, Sherwin Williams, and Wolohan Lumber Company.

Vision 2000 is a strategic plan for Cape Girardeau. Key areas identified in the plan for improvement are community spirit, planning and zoning, business, industry, jobs and education.

David Barklage, a member of the original planning committee in 1986, was the keynote speaker.

Chairman Harold Tilley presented the awards. Southeast Missouri Hospital hosted the breakfast.
