CAPE GIRARDEAU - The Community Relations Council of Vision 2000 recently presented its second annual "Awards of Distinction" to 16 organizations and individuals.

David Kaempfer, the newly-elected chairman of the Vision 2000 Community Relations Council, presided at the meeting.

"We established the `Award of Distinction' last year to salute those organizations and individuals whose support of Vision 2000 and devoted service has been outstanding," said Kaempfer. "Those we are recognizing have made contributions that will be of long-lasting significance to the quality of life in our community."

Vision 2000's award recipients this year include: Larry Bannister, Joyce Barylski, the Breakfast Optimist Club, Cape River Heritage Museum, Cape Rotary West, Bruce Domazlicky, Suellyn Felker, and Pauline Fox.

Also among the award recipients are Foeste Nursery, Gary Helwege, Sande Meyer, Mid-America Hotels Corporation, the Raymond Ritter family, Gary Stanley, Southeast Missouri Hospital, and the West Park Mall.

Kaempfer noted that the council also established the award program to point out that through special efforts of many people, the annual objectives of Vision 2000 are being met.

He further explained it is the role of the Community Relations Council to oversee implementation of the Vision 2000 objectives that constitute the city's strategic plan. An annual printed report detailing the plan's accomplishment is being completed and will be made available to the city council and the community next month.

Vision 2000 Community Relation Council members serving with Kaempfer for 1991 include: Martha Bender, Nancy Bray, Carol Carter, Melvin Gateley, Jeff Krantz, Julia Kridelbaugh, Lauchette Low, John Mehner, Moe Sandfort, Curt Smith, and Harold Tilley. Ex-officio members are Al Stoverink and Linda Cochran.
