Douglas D. Groesbeck of the Lake of the Ozarks area will become new manager at Union Electric Co., 400 Broadway in Cape Girardeau, this summer.
Groesbeck will succeed Virgil Chirnside, who has announced his retirement as manager of UE's Southeast Missouri District, effective June 1.
Groesbeck, who is currently manager of UE's Lakeside District in the Lake of the Ozarks area, has served in a number of positions during his 17 years with Union Electric.
Chirnside has spent more than 35 years in the utility industry. He served with the Missouri Public Service Commission before joining Missouri Utilities Co. in 1959, as a staff accountant.
Following promotions to supervisor of accounting, assistant treasurer and treasurer, Chirnside was named manager in 1982, prior to Missouri Utilities' merger with Union Electric.
Groesbeck, his wife, Linda, and their two children, will move to Cape Girardeau in the near future.
UE, headquartered in St. Louis, serves a 24,500 square mile territory in Missouri and Illinois.
