The Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad on Friday identified Airious D. Darling, 28, of Cape Girardeau as the victim of the fatal shooting Thursday night at 612 Locust St. in Cape Girardeau.
Police went to the shooting at 9:19 p.m. Thursday and found Darling dead on the porch of the house. Cape Girardeau Police public information officer Adam Glueck said just one shot was fired.
A roommate, who lived with Darling in the 900 block of Sprigg Street and declined to give her name, said Darling had moved to Cape Girardeau from Memphis, Tennessee, in February. She said he had several children. He was visiting a relative at 612 Locust St. at the time of the shooting. The roommate said Darling was holding a 1-year-old child when he was shot.
A neighbor said Darling was shot in the face at relatively close range.
A Southeast Missourian photographer reported seeing a distraught woman run through the police tape at the scene Thursday night, screaming, “My boyfriend’s dead!”
The photographer said neighbors reported hearing a “pop” just before the victim was found.
The Major Case Squad continues to investigate the case.
