Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10495 in Jackson and its auxiliary will conduct a POW-MIA memorial walk at 9 a.m. today at Brookside Park in Jackson, Mo. The walk is one mile and will be dedicated not only to prisoners of war and those who went missing in action but also to those lost in the recent terrorist attacks.

All branches of the military and all interested citizens are invited. Blair Moran, who is active in Sikeston, Mo., and state veterans' groups, will address the crowd after the walk.

Shrine Poker Run will benefit children

The Cape Shrine Club will have its Poker Run to benefit Shriners Children's Hospital at noon on Sunday beginning in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Cape Girardeau.

Activities include an 85-mile ride through Southeast Missouri, cash prizes and a 50/50 drawing. The Moolah Shrine Center Motor Patrol will perform a precision riding demonstration at 4:15 p.m. on matching Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

Theater to donate proceeds from movies

Wehrenberg Theatres will conduct its Victims' Benefit Day at the Movies on Tuesday. The Cape 14 West Cine will donate all ticket and concession sales to relief efforts in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania through the Salvation Army.

Whitewater, Mo., man graduates basic training

Brian Dinkins of Whitewater, Mo., recently graduated from basic training in the Air Force. He was trained at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Dinkins is the son of Don and Sharon Dinkins and is a 1997 graduate of Delta High School.

Kluesner family reunion scheduled

The Kluesner family will gather Sept. 30 at Cape County Park Shelter No. 4 for a reunion. A basket dinner will be served at noon.

Cape woman elected to state genealogy post

Margaret Cline Harmon recently was elected as historian director during the annual meeting of the Missouri State Genealogy Association. She will serve a two-year term and was the first person elected from Southeast Missouri. Harmon serves as president of the Scott County Historical and Genealogy Society.

Poetry Coffee House meets Monday

The monthly meeting of the Poetry Coffee House will be this Monday at 7 p.m. Participants are asked to meet at the Pavillion No. 4 in Capaha Park for "Poetry in the Park."

Please bring a snack to share. In case of rain, the meeting will be held in the Hirsch Community Room.

Jackson R-2 Art Exhibit scheduled

Riverside Regional Library will be hosting an art exhibit of selected Jackson R-2 art department's student artworks this school year. September will feature South Elementary art; October's exhibit will be high school art; November will be West Lane art; December will include both junior high and high school artwork.

January's exhibit will be middle school art; February will feature junior high art; March will be Orchard Elementary art; and in April, selected artworks from Annex, Gordonville and North Elementary will be on display.

Cape Genealogy Society discusses old homes

The Cape Girardeau County Genealogy Society will meet Tuesday at the Riverside Regional Library in Jackson at 7:30 p.m. Doris Davault, a member of the Jackson Heritage Association, will present the program on "Old Homes of Jackson." Salvation Army offers 'Meals with Friends'

The Salvation Army at 701 Good Hope will be serving "Meals with Friends" Sept. 24-28. Serving time from 4:30-6pm, Monday through Friday. Anyone is welcome to come and enjoy a hot meal in a friendly atmosphere at no cost.

Monday -- spaghetti and meatballs, lettuce salad, buttered corn, garlic bread, cake or pie.

Tuesday -- chili dogs on bun, potato chips, baked beans, peaches, cake or pie.

Wednesday -- shepherds pie, fruit salad, bread and butter, cake or pie.

Thursday -- tuna noodle casserole, green beans, applesauce, bread & butter, cake or pie.

Friday -- homemade vegetable beef soup, crackers, coleslaw, cake or pie.
