Judy Thrower was installed recently as president of the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau. Installing the new president was past national president of the Ladies Auxiliary, Glenneta Vogelsang.
The auxiliary is composed of wives, daughters, mothers, sisters, grandmothers and granddaughters of veterans of foreign wars, whether the veteran is a member of the VFW organization or not. VFW Auxiliary 3838 currently has 787 members and is the largest in the state.
The Ladies Auxiliary raised $3,143,265 nationwide for cancer aid and research last year, one of their major programs. Auxiliary 3838 raised $4,155 of those amount, most of which will remain in Missouri. The VFW and Auxiliary also does community service projects in safety, drug abuse, Americanism, youth activities and assistance to the needy, as well as working to protect the rights of veterans and their families.
