Individual pins were awarded recently to over 125 volunteer workers at the Cape Girardeau Missouri Veterans' Home during the annual Volunteer Appreciation Night gathering.
The pins were the first awarded since the opening of the Veterans' Home in June 1990, recognizing hours served since the home opened through Dec. 31.
A total of 44,374 hours have been served since the opening of the Veterans' Home: 8,733 for the partial year 1990, 15,770 for 1991 and 18,871 during 1992.
Euil Trickey and Barbara Yallaly were each awarded 1,400-hour pins. Trickey is home representative for the Masonic Service Association. MSA volunteers represent around 25 percent of the total hours served. Yallaly is home representative of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. The Legion workers provide another 25 percent of the volunteer hours at the home.
Vergie Templeton was awarded a 1,200-hour pin and Lester Harris a 1,000-hour pin. Nine-hundred-hour pins went to Agnes Bendel and Frieda Howard.
Malita Stubblefield and Al Mason received 700-hour pins. A 600-hour pin went to Chester Herrington, with Marie Borchelt, Thelma Herrington and Hal Scowden accepting 500-hour pins.
