POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Authorities believe a group of young people went on a shooting spree earlier this week, damaging at least 25 vehicles throughout the town.
It is believed the damage occurred sometime late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.
Police said the damage to windows and windshields appeared consistent with a BB or pellet gun. Several vehicles had more than one window damaged.
"Usually, this kind of vandalism tends to be a group of young people, so we would encourage the public to notify us if they have information, which would lead us to the apprehension of the suspects," deputy police chief Jeff Rolland said.
Rolland believes the suspects were "kids out joy-riding, driving around all over the place."
While shooting out windows may be "the fun thing to do; what they don't realize is they end up with 20-plus windows shot out, at [a replacement cost of] $150 to $200 a window minimum, which makes [the total] well into the felony property damage range," Rolland said.
