As Sue Ramsey pointed out to a concerned caller Wednesday, a change in ownership should give customers no reason to fear, at Val's Upholstery.

Ramsey and Don Stevens, who bought out Brad and Laurie Haertling Feb. 21, bring 38 years experience with them and Forrest Tuttleton is still on hand with 31 years of his own in the upholstery business.

"We had always wanted to have a shop," Stevens said. "We got the opportunity and bought it."

Both Stevens and Ramsey worked for a number of years at Rust & Martin, before both came to work at Val's. They don't anticipate making any sweeping changes -- although they are doing automotive upholstering.

Val's continues to offer upholstery, corner boards, head boards, glue-ups and touch-ups on antiques (Stevens' specialties), boat seats and more. They do home and commercial work.

A new pricing structure will be introduced, while free pick-up and delivery is being offered within a 25-mile radius. Val's also has a large selection of fabrics, as well as antique furniture and other furniture for sale.

"It's the work we love to do," Ramsey said, explaining their decision to strike out on their own.

They tentatively plan to hold an open house during the upcoming Jackson merchants' Spring Fling. Their telephone number, meanwhile, is still 243-1506.
