Today is the final day to file for the 2004 school board elections, and several local districts are still lacking enough candidates to fill vacancies.
Southeast Missouri districts all have two terms of three years each open for election this year. Voting will take place Tuesday, April 6.
Only one candidate has filed for the two openings in the Chaffee, Delta and Nell Holcomb school districts. No one has filed for election in the Kelso School District.
If there are not enough candidates to fill vacancies after the election, Missouri law allows the school board to appoint someone to the position.
Barring additional filings today, there will be no elections in Jackson or Oran this year. Districts are not required to hold uncontested elections.
