The Missouri Public Service Commission will hold a public hearing Tuesday in Cape Girardeau on proposed rules for adjusting electric rates when utility companies face higher costs for fuel or power purchased on the open market.

A law that took effect Jan. 1 allows the commission to include an adjustment clause during an electric rate case proceeding. The hearing, from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, will focus on the commission's proposed rules for implementing the law.

The hearing will be held in Glenn Auditorium in Dempster Hall on the Southeast Missouri State University campus. The formal period of public testimony will be preceded by a half-hour informal discussion between the public and PSC staff.
