PARIS -- The Cannes Film Festival will have an American feel this year.
Sofia Coppola, Richard Linklater and Richard Kelly all have films in the main competition. They'll be up against Cannes veterans including Pedro Almodovar, Aki Kaurismaki and Ken Loach.
The festival runs through May 28.
Ron Howard's "The Da Vinci Code" will be the opening-night movie on May 17, but it is not competing for prizes.

"Laitakaupungin Valot (Lights in the Dusk)," Aki Kaurismaki, Finland.
"Southland Tales," Richard Kelly, United States.
"Fast Food Nation," Richard Linklater, United States.
"The Wind That Shakes the Barley," Ken Loach, Britain.
"Summer Palace," Lou Ye, China.
"Il Caimano (The Caiman)," Nanni Moretti, Italy.
