Based on falling river levels on both the Mississippi and Ohio rivers and no immediate forecasts for significant rainfall, the Missouri District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has lowered its level of floodfighting to Phase I. Emergency field offices in Cape Girardeau and Caruthersville, Mo., and Dyersburg, Tenn., were closed and patrols of flood control works were reduced to once daily. During Phase I, corps personnel will continue to monitor all federal control works, including levees, flood walls and pumping stations.
