Urban deer hunt opponents to meet today

A group of local residents opposed to allowing deer hunting with the city limits of Cape Girardeau plans to meet today to discuss the April election.

Keep Cape Safe will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Hirsch Community Room at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. The meeting is open to the public.

Topics will include the wording of a ballot question set to appear before voters in April that will ask whether the city should repeal an ordinance to allow urban deer hunting and the methods used in a survey being conducted in Cape Girardeau by the Missouri Department of Conservation.

The survey is designed to determine the city's approximate whitetail deer density. Results are expected to be released in March.
