Phone service is now restored at the Cape Girardeau city offices after being down all day Thursday, according to an email from city public information coordinator Nicolette Brennan.
Phone service was unexpectedly interrupted around 6 p.m. Wednesday when computer hardware used in management of the phone system failed, the release stated. Calls were rerouted to the city's Emergency Operations Center. The city's 911 call center didn't lose service.
New equipment arrived Thursday afternoon to replace the failed hardware.
