The Southeast Missouri State University chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity contributed to the largest single-day fraternity philanthropic project by collecting 2,104 pounds of food from donations received from neighborhoods near the Southeast campus.
The food will be donated to a local charity, which will distribute it to needy families in the area, chapter officials said.
The drive was part of an international effort involving more than 150 Lambda Chi Alpha chapters in the United States and Canada. The food collected by the local chapter contributed to a total of 227,646 pounds of food raised Nov. 6. All of the food will be given to charities.
"Brothers Feeding Others" was the theme of the food drive, which involved the efforts of more than 8,000 members of Lambda Chi Alpha.
