Families can be expected to "monkey" around Southeast Missouri State University this weekend for the annual Family Weekend festivities, highlighted by a performance by Davy Jones, lead singer of The Monkees.

Jones will perform at Houck Stadium following Saturday night's football game.

"The concert following the football game has become such a successful part of Family Weekend," said Diane Sides, interim director of university relations.

"It's become a tradition that everyone looks forward to," she said.

On Friday, students can take their families to Towers Cafeteria or the University Center's Cafe Court for dinner from 4:30-7 p.m.

The Southeast Otahkian women's soccer team will take on Southwest Missouri State University at 7 p.m. at Houck Stadium.

At 6 p.m., students can bring their parents, children, spouses and friends to the annual Family Game Night at the Johnson Faculty Centre.

Families are encouraged to bring their favorite board or card game. A light supper will be provided.

At 8 p.m., Phi Beta Sigma will host a talent show in which university students will perform songs, dances, drama and poetry readings at Academic Auditorium.

On Saturday, families can stop by Wildwood, the university president's official residence, and enjoy morning coffee with Dr. Ken Dobbins, Southeast's 17th president, and his family.

The University Museum, the Scully Building and the political science department will hold open houses.

A family fun-fest will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Student Recreation Center.

Participants will test their skills at several carnival games such as tricycle races and football tosses. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Jones will take to the stage Saturday night after the football game between Southeast and Western Kentucky. The game begins at 6 p.m.

The festivities conclude Sunday. Dobbins will host the annual Family Weekend Brunch at the University Center from 9:30-11 a.m. The Catholic Campus Ministries and the Lutheran Student Fellowship both will hold services at 11 a.m.

The Southeast soccer team will host a barbecue fund raiser and an exhibition soccer match at 1 p.m. at Houck Stadium.
