Southeast Missouri State University will honor history professor Frank Nickell when he receives the 2009 Pride Award at commencement ceremonies at the Show Me Center.
Nickell began his teaching career at the school in 1969. Over the past 40 years, he's authored several books, hosted a weekly radio program and written newspaper columns on the region's history. Nickell said he's attempted to make people aware that, through all the changes over the last 40 years, the past remains important.
Nickell was selected for the award by the university's council of deans after nominations were submitted from each of the university's colleges. This is the 14th year Southeast has presented the Pride Award to an example of a teacher-scholar model professor.
