SPRINGFIELD -- Pianist Susan Ho, a senior at Southeast Missouri State University, won a first prize in the Missouri Music Teachers Association competition last weekend in Springfield.

Ho, a student of associate professor James Sifferman, received first-place collegiate honors in the upper division. There were 13 other pianists in her field.

She is a piano performance major from Malaysia.

Other Sifferman students competing were Akiko Kamimura and Yuko Fujiki.

Receiving an honorable mention in the competition was trumpet player Keith Bales, a senior music education major from Fredericktown.

He is a student of Marc Fulgham, an instructor of trumpet at Southeast. Other Fulgham entries in the competition were David Bohnert of Perryville, Billy Keys of Cape Girardeau and Kevin Hill of Jackson.
