JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- University of Missouri system president Gary Forsee has denounced a bill approved by the Missouri House that would allow concealed weapons on college campuses.
Forsee said in a written statement that the bill "increases the risk that our university family could be put in harm's way."
Missouri law allows residents to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon. But that law bars people from bringing concealed weapons into places such as college campuses.
The House bill repeals the ban on college campuses.
Supporters say that allowing properly trained people to carry concealed weapons on college campuses would improve public safety.
