Southeast Missouri State University will host Family Weekend Oct. 1-3, highlighted by a concert by the Beach Boys.
"Good Vibrations" will be felt on campus as the Beach Boys perform at Houck Stadium after the football game on Oct. 2.
The Beach Boys' cruising tunes have included "Surfin Safari," "Help Me Rhonda, "California Girls," and "Surfin USA."
Family Weekend is an opportunity for families to experience the campus community, said Diane Sides, Family Weekend coordinator and assistant director of university relations.
Events include Family Fun Night at Southeast Discount Golf on Oct. 1 at 6 p.m.
Stargazing will offered at the university observatory that night.
On Oct. 2, an open house will be held at Wildwood from 8:30-10 a.m. University President Dr. Ken Dobbins, his wife, Jeanine, and their son, Paul, a sophomore at Southeast, will greet visitors.
Other Family Weekend events include Children's Archaeology Day with hands-on activities and projects for children, and a Minority Family Weekend open forum involving discussions with student, faculty and staff.
The Southeast volleyball Otahkians will host a game against Morehead State at 1 p.m. Oct. 2 at Houck Field House.
Saturday evening will begin will a pre-game picnic and entertainment at 4 p.m. prior to the 6 p.m. football game at Houck Stadium between Southeast and Eastern Kentucky.
Tickets for the meal, including barbecue and all the fixings, are $6.
On Oct. 3 at 9:30 a.m., Dobbins will host the annual Family Weekend Brunch at the University Center.
Cost is $6 for adults and $4.75 for children, ages 6-12. Admission is free for children, ages 5 and under.
Also on Oct. 3 at 11 a.m., a Catholic Campus Ministries Mass is scheduled and a Lutheran Student Fellowship Sunday Morning Worship.
