Southeast Missouri State University has hired a new director of residence life and a nursing department chairman.
Carol Lynn Coventry, who has helped direct student housing operations at the University of California-Davis since 1982, has been hired to manage student housing at Southeast as director of residence life.
Coventry's salary will be $47,000.
Dr. Alberta Louise Hart, formerly director of the DePauw University School of Nursing in Indiana, has been hired as chairman of the nursing department at Southeast Missouri State University.
The appointments were approved Wednesday by the Board of Regents.
Coventry will be responsible for the administration of all the residence halls and the dining facilities at Southeast.
As to Hart, she is no stranger to Southeast Missouri. "I was born on a cotton farm between East Prairie and Charleston and lived there until I was in the third grade," she said.
Hart has relatives in Southeast Missouri.
Hart, who has worked as a professional nurse, said, "We need nurses who can function in more autonomous roles now. There is a growing need for primary, preventive health care."
