The Southeast Missouri State University Center will again sponsor "Home for the Holidays," a weeklong series of activities in celebration of the holiday season.
The activities will be held Dec. 8-12. This is the third year for the celebration, University Center officials said.
A refreshment table with cookies and Wassail will be set up in the third-floor lobby daily throughout the week. There also will be a box for donations to the Toys for Tots program.
On Dec. 8, career services and Student Government will sponsor "Stockings Stuffed with Holiday Cheer."
Students can pick up and decorate a stocking and then hang it up in the University Center. An item will be added to the stocking each day. Students can retrieve their stockings on Dec. 12.
From 12:15-1 p.m. on Dec. 8, the Southeast Stars will perform Christmas carols. The Stars are a vocal and instrumental group of Southeast faculty and staff.
The "Southeast Holiday Parade" will be held Dec. 9, sponsored by the Southeast Bookstore. Events will begin at 11 a.m. with a performance by the Baptist Student Union Choir in the University Center Club.
From 11:30 a.m. to noon, Dr. SueAnn Strom, vice president for student affairs, will give a presentation and cooking demonstration dealing with Hanukkah.
At 12:30 p.m., Southeast Bookstore clothing items will be modeled. Discount coupons for the bookstore will be distributed.
On Dec. 10, the University Center and the dean of students office will sponsor "Jazz It Up With Santa." Santa Claus will be present for the Common Hour performance of the University Jazz Band, from 12:30-1:15 p.m.
On Dec. 11, displays will be set up in the University Center lobby for "Holidays Around the World."
Tables will be set up with international displays relating to the holidays. There also will be a Kwanzaa exhibit.
Students from local elementary schools will visit the displays, and Tom Lee and Lynn McIntosh will sing.
The event is sponsored by the Campus Assistance Center and the office for minority student programs.
The Southeast Bookstore will hold a Christmas sale from 5-7 p.m. on Dec. 11. Free popcorn and drinks will be available, drawings will be held, and the first 200 customers will receive a free, five-minute, pre-paid phone card.
On Dec. 12, the University Center will sponsor "Ringing in the New Year" in the center's lobby.
From noon to 1 p.m., the United Methodist Church Hand Bell Ensemble will perform.
Throughout the week, organizations will be encouraged to donate fruit baskets. The fruit baskets will be distributed to nursing homes and other facilities.
